This blog is for the Cherokee Trail Wired Cougar participants. Wired Cougars are teachers who are in the process of earning laptops via participation in technology related staff development.
Please post the title of the class/workshop, a summary of what was covered, and it's impact on you and your instruction. A separate post for each class is required.
Mostly I went to the "Tech Tuesday" portion of the requirements and enjoyed most of them. I particularly liked the one that demonstrated the newest tricks and gadgets in technology. The last one (re: what we can do as educators via classroom instruction and technology) I thought was kind of redundant and, while Christine did a fine job with the Powerpoint, I thought it wasn't as vital as other "Tech Tuesday's". (no offense, Christine). I thought all of the Tech Tuesday's that I attended had good information, and I will certainly attend more next year as they arise. Thanks Christine!
I took the Producer class at SARC. It was okay. The instruction wasn't great, but I can definitely see potential for using it in the classroom. It would be nice to use if you ever have a sub. You can videotape yourself lecturing while displaying a powerpoint presentation with all the notes at the same time. I just need to get much more familiar with it before I can use it. It just wasn't taught very well.
I went to a tech Tuesday where Christine shared all the high-tech video games that kids play. It was great because all of the games that she talked about were very educational. It would be fun to find some fun health games to bring into the classroom. There are some online, but it would be great to find some educational software that could be downloaded onto laptops. Kids love games...and it's just another method for reinforcing content. Thanks Christine!
I also attended a Tech Tuesday where Christine talked about ALL the high-tech gadgets out there. I knew there were a lot, but wow! There are tons! From crazy pens, to hand-held computers, to heated keyboards...there's something for everyone! It was a little over the top. Although, Christine did mention she loved the idea of a heated keyboard because her fingers are always cold (haha). Being at the session made me realize that there is so much techie stuff out there that I don't even know about. I would love to try some of the latest stuff (the computer pen was very cool) just to keep the spark alive. Tech stuff does keep teaching interesting, doesn't it? :)
